The horn inevitably evokes associations with idyllic landscapes, forests and hunting. Its therefore no wonder that Carl Maria von Weber gave this instrument a central role in his opera Der Freischütz. In this portrait concert the eight horn players of the Wiener Symphoniker present an entertaining potpourri of classics and less well-known works. They play the Vienna horn, which has a soft and unique sound because of the way it is built.
