Ludwig van Beethoven devotes a whole symphony, his famous Pastorale, to the theme of nature, which can also be found in the eerie sounds of Carl Maria von Weber’s Der Freischütz. Another highlight of the traditional matinee at the end of the season is a work by Ondřej Adámek. Using his own musical language, the Prague-born composer, conductor and choirmaster, combines various elements of distant cultures. One prime example is his violin concerto Follow me, which premiered in 2017. At the beginning of the concert, the audience is welcomed by Antonín Dvořák’s lively overture Carnival, which is part of a cycle called Nature, Life and Love.
